Call for Testing: Profile Cards for WordPress.org

,

With each flagship WordPress event, there comes a time when organizers, speakers, and attendees start asking for avatar frames and social cards/badges to share their excitement across social media. It’s common practice for events, and provides a simple way for those invested in the event to share with their own audiences.

Unfortunately, these assets often come too late to effectively serve as marketing material. From what I’ve seen, this is typically due to overburdened design/creative organizing teams. Inspired by CardPress by donini, and my recent time testing Spacefast, I sought to fix this issue with a simple self-serve tool. I give you Profile Cards for WordPress.org.

Image showing a WordCamp profile card creation interface with fields for username, event selection, and profile content options. A live preview displays a sample card featuring 'I'm attending WordCamp Asia' with a photo of a participant named Matt Mullenweg, along with event details.

This tool pulls information from your public WordPress.org profile and creates a variety of cards for use wherever you see fit. After a couple of weekends iterating, Profile Cards for WordPress.org is now deploying to Spacefast from GitHub, and is good enough that I’d like to start getting some feedback. The issue queue and discussion area are open. PRs would be awesome.

  • Attendees: Are these something you would use? Why or why not?
  • Speakers: Do the cards have the information you would want displayed? Anything missing?
  • Designers: Check out the repo. Is this workable for you? The default derives event themes based on the event site, but I’d like organizers to be able to customize if they so choose.
  • Developers: This was very much a “Me, my agent, and Spacefast” project. I’d appreciate you raising any possible concerns here.
  • Marketers: Are there any use cases or card sizes that are missing?
  • Contributors: Is this something you’d like to see added as an official project?
